Saved my hinie.
-
I have used this backup plugin for years, creating backups and saving them manually. This was my only backup solution (maybe not so wise). There have only been two occasions over these years that I have had to actually tried to restore a site from a backup. One of those times it worked perfectly, the other time, the restore failed for some reason (may have been a corrupted backup for some reason or even something I did wrong somewhere).
Anyway, recently I had a serious issue on my primary website. This is a site that I have spent 4 years building and maintaining. I had a Backup-guard backup from 7/30/20, which was the most current backup that I had before I had issues (long story). After spending over two weeks working with my hosting company as well as my WordPress Security company (Wordfence), I had gotten nowhere. My hosting company did not have any backups on the server going back that far, so I was down to trying to install this 7/30 backup, or being in a serious situation. I’m pretty sure that I have aged about 3 years over the last 3 weeks.
So last night, at 2 AM, I initiated the 7/30 backup restore. I watched in horror on the screen as the progress screen showed 0% for a very long time. I was afraid it wasn’t working. Then I realized, this is a large site, and perhaps it would just take some time. So I said a prayer, went to sleep, and hoped for the best.
When I woke up this morning, the backup had restored successfully! There are no words to describe how relieved I am right now. I will be setting up an automated backup solution that stores backups on a separate server so that I never encounter anything like this again, but I have to say, this plugin saved my butt last night. Thank you Backup-guard folks.
