So this is pretty weird. This concerns the author name and link, which is being filtered and altered by Molongui. The actual author box at the bottom of the page works as expected in all cases.

I go in to edit a post by a different author and save the page. Now I’m the author in the byline (again, not in the author box)!

I disable Molongui and reload the page and Steve is the author again.

I re-activate Molongui and I’m the author again.

So just out of curiosity, I enabled the “co-author” feature and the byline text reverts to Steve, but still links to my author page.

So I delete Steve as author by clicking the trash can icon, add someone random, delete that author, add Steve back and everything works as expected.

Then I turn off the co-author feature, reload the page, and I’m the author again.

I deactivate Molongui and Steve is the author again.

    Pretty crazy.

    Hi @ideawrights,

could you please let us know which WP and plugin version are you running?

    Thread Starter Tom

    (@ideawrights)

    Everything is current

    Molongui 4.2.11
Wordpress 5.5 (though now upgraded to 5.6)

This is a recently launched site without much history, but I feel like it was working fine in development and only recently started having issues. Also, we regularly clean up revisions, so it’s a bit tough to say, but we only started noticing the problem recently.

I would *guess* the timing of 4.2.10 is about right, but couldn’t say for sure.

If you want to send a private message, I could let you into the backend of the staging site or give you the clone URL for the git repo.

It’s not a big deal. It’s working for us with the co-author function, but if you want to try to track it down and want access to any of those, let me know.

Same here. I’m interested in this too.

    Hi @ideawrights,

Sure. If you provide us access, we will definitely look into it. Please open a support ticket with us either using the form available at the Molongui > Support menu item on your Dashboard or on our site.

    Thanks!

+1 I’m also seeing this behaviour. We’re using Guest Authors for user accounts to get around this for the time being.

    Hi all,

Thanks for letting us know. Thing is we have tried to reproduce the issue on our testing server and we are not experiencing the reported issue. So far we’ve tried to:

    1) Edit an existing post with a different admin user than the one assigned as author. Save post. Refresh the backend page. Author selection is unaltered and both, byline and author box are displaying the correct (assigned and unaltered) user as author.

    2) Edit an existing post with with a different admin user than the one assigned as author and switch assigned user to a new one. Save post. Refreshed page. Again, everything OK.

    3) The same two things mentioned above but with an editor user instead of an admin. Again, everything looking fine.

Let’s wait for @ideawrights to open a support ticket and provide admin access so we can look into it. Or maybe either @enventa or @simonzing wish to let us take a look into their installation so we can do some research.

    @molongui Thanks for the update!

I’d love to give access, but we don’t yet have a staging environment to give access to (at least of the site we’re having the issue on). Sounds like @ideawrights might be in a better place for that at the moment, but I’ll see if we can sort it when things are quieter.

@molongui – I created an admin user for you on a staging platform and sent you the info through your ticketing system.

I would rather NOT have that URL public, so please use the email address in the ticket if you have questions that need to show a URL

    To reproduce,
    – go to a post
    – make no changes and hit “update”
    – reload the post. You will see you are the author and it links to your author bio
    – go to the Molongui Authorship settings and enable the co-author feature.
    – reload the page. You’ll see that the correct author name displays
    – hover over that author name. You’ll see that it still links to your author bio.
    – edit the post again.
    – delete the author and then add the same author back in. You’ll see it’s now correct.
    – now disable the co-author feature and you’ll see the name is still correct, even though you saved the post.
    – for fun and to complete the circle, edit the post again. Change nothing and update. You’ll see that once again you are the author in the byline

    Hi all,

Thanks to @ideawrights, who provided the steps to reproduce the issue and set up a staging site for us to check, we have been able to fix the reported issue. It only happened when having both the guest authoring and co-authoring features disabled.

We’ve just released an update (4.2.12) with the fix.

Thank you all for reporting the issue. And thanks again to @ideawrights for his help on this.

    Thread Starter Tom

    (@ideawrights)

My pleasure. Glad you could get it fixed quickly. Thanks!

    Thanks @molongui and @ideawrights

Sadly, this update didn’t resolve the issue for us. While ideawrights had guest and co-authoring disabled, we’re using guest authoring (not just as a workaround), and still see this behaviour when a post is updated. I’m guessing we’ll need to give you access to troubleshoot? Perhaps worth noting that this is on a site in a multisite network.

I’ll have to speak to the org about how we can make it happen (possibly in early Jan).

@enventa how did you get on with the new update?

    Thanks everyone!

    Plugin Author Molongui

    (@molongui)

    Hi @simonzing,

the issue reported by @ideawrights only applied to those installations having those two features disabled. So yours must be a different issue. Having access would be great as it allows us to debug the issue. So if you have the chance, whenever it is possible, please do. Meanwhile, maybe you could go to your Dashboard, Molongui > Support and scroll down the page to the bottom. There you will see a button labeled “Send report”. Please click on it so we can get insight on how your installation is configured. Maybe that’s enough for us to reproduce the issue on our testing server and look for a fix.

(For others having the issue reported in this ticket) When closing this ticket we forgot to mention that all those posts that had the author reverted to the current user, need manually fix. So you need to go edit each post showing the wrong author and select the correct author(s).

    Thanks @molongui,

I’ve just submitted a report, and opened a support ticket so you know it came from me. We’ll try to arrange access early in the new year, if you’re not able to replicate on your end.

    Thanks again,
    Simon

    Hi @simonzing,

Thanks for that! We have been able to identify the issue you’re experiencing. We have just released an update (4.2.13) that should fix it.

Please let us know whether the issue is fixed. If it is not we will keep looking into it.
