Says there is an update to plugin after installing

I install this on every site I work on. Lately, whenever I do install, it will have a “1” next to the plugin text as though there is an update to a plugin. To test this out, I installed from the WordPress directory directly and activated on a few brand new sites that had no other plugins installed. They all show this. So it is clearly something telling WP that there’s a plugin that needs to be updated. I opened up the plugin files and didn’t see anything obvious that was causing this, but I can confirm it happens when this is the only plugin installed.
