There’s definitely something that can be done, but since WP Featherlight opens up the image you tell it to and doesn’t set anything itself, it can’t help you fix those issues for you.

Thanks for the reply. What would you recommend me in order to fix this?

The way I understand it, GTMetrix sees that the small image has large size and does not realize that it is supposed to be enlarged.

What it’s saying is that you are serving an image that’s a larger size than than the area it’s occupying. Here is what GTMetrix has to say on the subject: https://gtmetrix.com/serve-scaled-images.html

I would recommend using image that are the correct size for the area that they’ll be used in. That should get rid of that error in PageSpeed and YSlow.

Well, the thing is that if I choose a small size for the image, then when it gets enlarged via WP Featherlight, the enlarged image is also very small and blurry. Basically, WP Featherlight opens the image at the size which is used when the image is added. When I have 2-3 images in 1 row, I either have to use very small sizes and get small and blurry images when they get enlarged, or use large sizes and get a bad GTMetrix score.

In order to do that, it’ll be more of manual process of selecting which images to open in a lightbox. You can use the instructions at https://github.com/noelboss/featherlight/#usage more information on how to do that.

The way I use WP Featherlight is by adding links to the chosen images to their media files. Then, the images open in lightboxes. I do not open all images in lightboxes, but I do not understand how to deliver small, scaled images when they are not lightboxed, and then deliver larger images when they are lightboxed with WP Featherlight. Please, look at this demo:

In order to open the lightbox the way you’d like, you can’t use the set it and forget it option of the plugin. You’ll have to initiate the lightbox yourself using the instructions found at https://github.com/noelboss/featherlight#user-content-usage
