    Is this normal?

This plugin take a freaking long time to scan, and then midway through the scan, it freezes/hangs….

Would not even call it midway…..I am currently stuck at just 6% scanned.

    And it has frozen….

  • @bliss7 There are a whole lot of factors. Is the scan triggering some kind of throttling / firewall mechanism on the hosting side? How many files are there to scan? Could it simply be a slow server?

Worst-case, the site could be broken. But if it’s progressing to 6% then I’d say it’s a firewall issue.

How many files does this installation have? And how many files are you trying to scan per batch? Any information in browser Dom Tools > Network tab?

I don’t know, it’s strange. If I open two tabs of the scan page, I see different number of files to scan. One new instance of the Run Scan page is showing 6772 and another is showing 4040.

    Which is which?

The one hanging is the 6772 file page and it is stuck at 6377 files left to scan.

It is hanging at this number for about 40 minutes already ever since I posted this thread.

I have installed Wordfence too, but the Firewall cannot even be created with that plugin. The button to create the firewall is greyed out. I don’t know why. Wordfence still works to scan, but the firewall cannot be installed even I followed their instructions by downloading the backup htacess and userini files.

Earlier, someone installed iThemes Security plugin for me, claiming it is so good etc….I have deactivated this plugin before installing Wordfence and your plugin.

I don’t know what is going on, seriously.

    1. Both scans are independent. Trying to run two scans simultaneously will only increase server load.
    2. Other security plugins and firewalls may interfere with the scan, flagging the scan as some kind of excessive traffic.
    1. How many files does the WordPress installation have?
    2. How many files are you trying to scan per request?

    1. I don’t know how many files my WordPress installation has, but as I mentioned above, one instance shows me 6772 and another instance 4040. I am currently not running 2 scans at the same time. I only have one scan “running”, the 6772 one…which has frozen. My whole site is not large, about 70 pages in total now.

    2. Only 1 file per request (I am also not sure what this means exactly).

On the dark section it will list in caps “TOTAL FILES:”

Try to increase the number of files per request to 10 or even 25. The slider is right below the “Start Scan” button.

Ok, so my total files is 6772 files….

I am rescanning again. I increased the no of files per request to be 11.

    Let’s see how it goes.

Update: It froze again. This time at 8%

ps: I am using a plugin called Litespeed Cache and my hosting is a Litespeed server.

Are you scanning your own site or is this a customer site? Happy to help. Mind contacting me directly from at https://malcure.com/malware-removal-plugin/plugin-support/ ?

I am scanning my own site. However, the reason why I am trying to scan in the first place is because I suspect there is a malware in my site.

Could it be the malware is interfering with the scan and also interfering with the Wordfence firewall?

This a high level malware I am afraid. It is very intelligent. I can share more details if you are serious about helping, but I am afraid it may have infected my database….

    ??

Serious about helping? That’s what I do ?? Let’s connect.

I did send you a message on your site just now, but I don’t know if you received it at all. Since there is no confirmation message that it was sent, on your site.

If you think think this can be challenge, then we can get in touch and I will reveal the details of this malware to you, but it is probably nothing like you have ever seen. I might be the unlucky person to have been affected by this new breed of malware.

Not yet. You can also directly mail to shivanand at malcure dot com

No confirmation that this is an issue with the plugin itself. This is a routine malware issue.

    @varun21

You mean to say, you think the malware is trying to stop the scanning? Wow, if true. This is an impressive malware…

So far there’s no confirmation, no diagnostic, no verification that this is an issue with the plugin. You say that your site has malware but there’s no confirmation how broken (or intact) your website is. A simple JavaScript or invalid markup issue can break plugins. If you want help with malware, this is not the forum for it.

    Closing.
