Getting scan failed. Cannot make outbound requests. Even though it reports that it found the themes and sometimes scans as many as 16k files before the error throws. So I doubt it “failed to start”.

already did everything suggested in the readme

already tried tools>diagnostics> (start all scans remotely) AND disabled (SSL verification)

    already deleted plugin and reinstalled.

what’s my next step? thanks peeps!

  • Hey @ari14850,

Thanks for sharing the steps you’ve already taken to troubleshoot this.

Can you please share the URL you’re having the issue with?

Can you do the following so I can get the information I need to help you?

    1. Kill the existing scan if it is still running (The “Start New Scan” button turns in to a “Stop” button while the scan is running).
    2. Go to your Scan > Scan Options and Scheduling page and locate the “Performance Options”.
    3. Set “Maximum execution time for each scan stage” to 20 on the options page.
    4. Click to “Save Changes”.
    5. Go to the Tools > Diagnostics page.
    6. In the “Debugging Options” section check the circle “Enable debugging mode”
    7. Click to “Save Changes”.
    8. Start a new scan.
    9. Copy the last 20 lines from the Log (click the “Show Log” link) or so of the activity log and paste them here.

    Thanks,

    thanks!

    ok followed the process.

as a weird aside, with the checkboxes Wordfence only shows me checked boxes, if they are not checked they are literally empty blank spaces, not little circles.

the “Show log” doesn’t go back 20 entries, I had to hit “show full log for that”

    here’s what “show log” showed

So a bit after I posted the above I ran a scan and it worked fine.

I’m wondering if y’all changed anything at your end based on that info?

    Hey @ari14850,

Thanks for the update, and happy to hear it!

It’s hard to say exactly what was happening. It’s possible something n your hosting was blocking it, but it isn’t now.

Either way, if it comes back up please let us know and we’ll take a closer look.

    Thanks,

    Gerald
