• Hello ! Trying to scan I get this error: “The current scan looks like it has failed, and its last status update was 16 mins ago, and you can continue to wait for it to resume or cancel and restart the scan. Run scans reliably. Click here for the steps you can try. ” I clicked on to find the solution and went to the “options” page of the scan and in the “Time limit that a scan can run in seconds” page I wrote before 15 then 20 as a board.
I tried to rescan the scan, but I get it “Scan interrupted. You have 1 new issue to fix. See below.”
So I went to the tools page, I clicked on the diagnostics and at the end of the page I clicked on “Click to view your system’s configuration in a new window”. Here I have to find “max_execution_time” is changing “Maximum Run Time for Each Scan Phase” but how do you do it?

  • Hi,
Could you please leave “Time limit that a scan can run in seconds” blank? this will set the time to 3 hours which is the default value, note that the value you enter there is in seconds, so (15 or 20) isn’t reasonable at all.

After that run a new scan in debug mode and let me know if you got any error message in the scan activity log if the scan didn’t complete successfully.

    Thanks.

Hi, when I wrote the first time then the problem was resolved, disabling and reactivating the plugin. But today after the update of WordPress the problem has reappeared and the scan fails and i am the same error 3 weeks ago, I tried to disable and reactivate then i try going on:
    – options
    – “How much memory should Wordfence request when scanning” and here I increased to 300
I tried again but did not finish
Sorry my ignorance but what does the debug mode mean? And how does it work?

    Thanks so much

    Hi,
Debug mode should reveal more information in the scan activity log about what the scan is doing step by step which should help us understanding why it hangs.

If there is any running scan at the moment, please click on “Click to kill the current scan” then make sure “debug mode” is turned on and run a new scan, when it hangs again, click on “Email activity log” and send the log to “alaa [at] wordfence [dot] com”.

    Thanks.

How do I activate debug mode? Thanks so much ??

Please check (Wordfence > Tools => Diagnostics => Enable debugging mode).

    Thanks.

Hi, sorry late but I resumed work today. I enabled debug mode and when I stopped I click on “Email activity log” and sent to [email protected]. it’s right ? Now what should I do ? Thank you

Is that your website ti*********ng.com? because I got many scan activity logs recently. If so, are you sure the scan is hanging at this stage? could you please refresh the scan page and kill the scan then run a new one?

    Thanks.

Hi, the site is that. I tried to update the page, kill the scan and run another, but I always get the same message “Scan Failed: The current scan looks like it has failed. In case it resumes or cancel and restarts the scan. Some sites may need adjustments to run scans reliably. ” what should I do ?
    Thanks so much

If you have any caching plugin, please try to deactivate it -temporarily- and re-check this issue, also you can go to (Wordfence > Tools => Diagnostics) and click on “Send Report by Email” button at the top of the page, you can send the report to “alaa [at] wordfence [dot] com”, make sure to include your forum username, I will take a look at this report and let you know my findings.

    Thanks.

I tried to disable the “WP Super Cache” cache plugin, but I got the same problem. So I sent the report by email to [email protected], with the name giuliferi90. Thank you very much for your availability

I can see “max_execution_time” has been set to 120 on your server, so please try setting “Maximum execution time for each scan stage” following this guide using different values, starting with 30 then 15 and 12, running a new scan every time.

Also, while the scan is running, please check the browser console looking for any JavaScript error.

Let me know how it goes,
    Thanks.

Hi, I followed the guide and set “Maximum execution time for each scan stage” at 30, and it worked! The scan is complete! I did not control the browser console, but did not help because the scan was completed, right?
Thanks so much! You have been very kind!

I’m glad you managed to get it working! there is no need now to check the browser console.

    Thanks.
