Scan Failed without any feedback

    Hi,
    I use Wordfence at a small site, which has only 44 pages and 23 theme&plugins.
    I got below message;
    “Scan Failed
    The current scan looks like it has failed. Its last status update was 25 minutes ago. You may continue to wait in case it resumes or stop and restart the scan. Some sites may need adjustments to run scans reliably”.
    Site is hosted at shared hosting package with;
    max_execution_time = 300,
    max_input_time = 120,
    max_input_vars=20000,
    memory_limit = 512M.

    I set performance options as;
    Use low resource scanning (reduces server load by lengthening the scan duration) : Enabled
    Limit the number of issues sent in the scan results email : 1000
    Time limit that a scan can run in seconds : empty
    How much memory should Wordfence request when scanning : 256
    Maximum execution time for each scan stage: 15

    I use lastest versions for both WP and WordFence.

    Could you help me in order to use Wordfence , properly?

    Can you send a diagnostic report to wftest @ wordfence . com? You can find the link to do so at the top of the Wordfence Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

    Also, if you could do the following steps for me:

    • Go to the Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics page
    • In the “Debugging Options” section check the circle “Enable debugging mode”
    • Click to “Save Changes”.
    • CANCEL any current scan and start a NEW scan
    • Copy the last 20 lines from the Log (click the “Show Log” link) or so of the activity log once the scan finishes and paste them in this post.

    This will help me see exactly what is happening when the scan fails.

    Thanks for sending that over!

    The diagnostic looks good! Everything is connecting properly in the settings.

    The scan results you shared looks like something is interrupting the scan right before the fork.

    Try to navigate to Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics > Debugging and TOGGLE “Start All Scans Remotely” and run another scan. If you could post the results if it fails as you did before.

    Hi WFAdam,
    Thank you very much for your support.
    I enabled “Start All Scans Remotely” as you wrote.
    But it also failed.
    I got these message;
    “Scan Failed
    The scan has failed to start. This is often because the site either cannot make outbound requests or is blocked from connecting to itself. Click here for steps you can try.”
    What do you advise to solve it?

    Can you screenshot your Wordfence > Scan > Manage Scan > Performance section for me to review?

    Also, could you screenshot your Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostic > Debugging section as well.

    In the first screenshot, can you adjust the following:
    Time limit that a scan can run in seconds from 3600 to 0.

    This will adjust the allotted scan time from 60 minutes to 3 hours.

    In the second screenshot, can you adjust the following:
    Enable Enable debugging mode (increases database load)
    Disable Start all scans remotely
    Enable Enable SSL Verification

    Then try to run another scan. Wait until it completes or fails. If it fails, copy the last 10 lines of the scan log on the Scan page for me.

    Is that the end of the scan? It looks like it’s still running in that log.

    Also, just as a test, it looks like you have your time limit set to 60 minutes (3600 seconds). Set that setting to “0” which will default to 3 hours, then see if this goes through.
