    Hi Folks,

I’m trying to clean up an infected remote site which is on a cPanel server which has now been suspended, by downloading the site into my local AMPPS environment (files and database), and running a Wordfence Scan.

However, the Wordfence scan screen says:

    Scan Failed
The current scan looks like it has failed. Its last status update was 11 mins ago. You may continue to wait in case it resumes or stop and restart the scan. Some sites may need adjustments to run scans reliably. Click here for steps you can try.

    The scan log shows:

[Jul 30 05:40:23:1532929223.554283:1:info] Contacting Wordfence to initiate scan

I can search for plugins and download them, so the local website has permission to reach outwards.

    Help appreciated.

    I am running Softaculous’s AMPPS.

Checking the PHP config, max_execution_time was set to 30s, I increased this to 3600s, and the scan is running okay now.

I will let you know if the scan completes or not.

How do I set Wordfence’s scan to run in xx second increments?

Look on the scan options page, in the Performance section. I usually set max execution time to 20 seconds and the time limit that a scan can run in seconds to 21600 (6 hours). 6 hours is usually more than enough time to complete one. If you aren’t using it already, this link shows how to clean a site using Wordfence and includes some links to articles in our free learning center for additional pointers.

I have made the changes you suggested to scan performance options, however, when I try to start a scan, 5 seconds later the scan stops, and I receive:

    Scan Failed
The scan has failed to start. This is often because the site either cannot make outbound requests or is blocked from connecting to itself. Click here for steps you can try.

I don’t believe setting the Wordfence servers to commence the scan will work in this situation, as the sites are running as local development servers.

    Hi @insightdes

Yes, please disable the “Start all scans remotely” option and activate “Enable debugging mode” option, then kill any running scans at the moment and run a new scan and watch the scan activity log for any error message you might get, it will be helpful also if you can email me both the “Scan activity log” and “Diagnostics Report” from the (Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics) page to “alaa [at] wordfence [dot] com”.

    Thanks.

    Hi Alaa,

I no longer have the need to scan from a local development server, so I will close this thread.

    Thanks,
    Steve
