    Hi,
Google Webmaster Tools says that my site (wandacooper.com.au) has “harmful content”, specifically 36 “deceptive pages”. (Each one is supposedly in a subdomain that begins “service.paypal.com-id.form-[10-digit-number].”.) I’ve been trying to run a Wordfence scan to determine if there really is a problem, but it keeps hanging on “The current scan looks like it has failed.” I’ve tried all the steps in the documentation (max execution time, etc.), but nothing seems to help.
    My Wordfence version is 6.3.22
    My PHP version is 5.6.30
    Thanks.

  • For testing purposes, try disabling nearly all the scan options and then run a scan. If the scan works, then set the scan up so it only does the parts of the scan you need, and see if it works. Also remember there is Wordfence Gravity Scan, prefered in this shop as compared to the native, server hogging Wordfence scan. MTN

    Hi @doctordada
Please try enabling the “debug mode” then run a new scan and send me the scan activity log to “alaa [at] wordfence [dot] com”.

    Thanks.

Hi “wfalaa”. Thanks for the reply. (Sorry I’m only just getting back to it now.) I’ve just emailed you the scan activity log. It looks like the scan is getting stuck on code-editor-rtl.css.

    Cheers

    Hi @doctordada
I checked your website and I can see you are running PHP version 5.2.17, that’s really an old version, released back in 2011 and is no longer maintained, we recommend running PHP version 5.6 or newer and WordPress recommends version 7.2 or newer, I’m pretty sure this will fix your issue. You can ask your hosting provider about how to upgrade PHP on your server.

    Thanks.

Thanks. It’s strange, though, because at least one other site I manage has the same PHP version (doctordada.com), and WordFence has no problem scanning that.

Besides upgrading PHP on your current site: “wandacooper.com.au” I recommend the followings:
    – Disable “Scan images, binary, and other files as if they were executable” if it was enabled.
    – Disable “Use low resource scanning“.
    – Reduce the value of “Maximum execution time for each scan stage” according to this guide.

Then run a new scan with “Debug mode” turned on, and let me know what you will get in the scan activity log.

    Thanks.
