Scheduled Backup Not Being Created/Executed

On a couple of my sites I am experiencing the folloiwing issue.
On visiting the site I see that previously created schedules have disappeared.
I create a new schedule. The “schedule saved” message displays.
I then return to the Schedule List and the new sceduled backup is not listed.
