Scheduled backups set for daily, but running 0-3 times a day

I have a scheduled daily backup set for database + site files, with the most recent 7 saved. It’s been like this for a year or so. Just last week I noticed that 3 backups had been created in one day. I deleted the schedule/backups and recreated another schedule to run once a day at about 11:00 pm (this is the only schedule I have). Today I checked and I have:
September 15, 2015 – 11:02 pm
September 15, 2015 – 4:14 pm
September 15, 2015 – 1:46 pm
September 14, 2015 – 11:02 pm
September 13, 2015 – 11:04 pm
September 13, 2015 – 2:04 am
