The task mentioned in the topic title includes the following action “Perform Database Optimization for MyISAM tables”.

Unfortunately when my “wp_postmeta” table is optimised, either manually or by this tool, it crashes. It has a status of “in use” when looked at in PHPMYADMIN and my site no longer displays correctly. My order data is also impacted.

It took me considerable time to identify that this plugin was the cause of the crashes I was experiencing periodically (once a week obviously, but it took a while for me to see the pattern).

I don’t expect the plugin team behind SG Optimizer to be able to resolve the crash issue since it also happens when the database is manually optimised but further configuration of this option in the plugin to be able to segregate “Perform Database Optimization for MyISAM tables” from the rest of the actions this task perform would allow me to still get some benefit from the rest of the tasks this option provides in the plugin.

Given Siteground’s hosting support pages frequently mention the need for backups if database optimisations are being performed it would seem appropriate to me to provide more granular control over a task that carries risk such as this.

    Hello @ameephillips,

We didn’t separate the different features in the ‘Scheduled database maintenance’ as for those to be effective, the database optimization must be completed.

You should check the database and see if you can reduce the size of the post_meta database table based on the records in it. Normally for the post_meta table to get too large, a plugin stores information in it. Based on it and the site, you can see if that info can be stored somewhere else or removed if you don’t need it.

Thank you for your feedback. We will pass your suggestion to our developers to check it and see if we can make this option work more effectively or display a warning for more extensive databases to avoid this in the future.
