Scrambled media files

Hi there,
I have had mp3s in a music directory and have had it this way forever. Rather than uploading each file individually through the interface, I just put everything in this music directory where I want to keep it. But now, when I try to insert it via the media library, it inserts the wrong url for my files. They should be in public_html/music but the path is kind of bizarre. It forces a change to something that ends up being in the wp-content/uploads area with all of the year, month, stuff. I really want to keep the music directory so that I can easily find things when I’m not within WordPress. I’ve tried “hard coding” the path using the text editor, but the files won’t play when I do this. There doesn’t seem to be any way to override this. The directory the media library points to to automatically doesn’t appear to exist at all. I would love a fix pretty quick because this is my business and without being able to demo audio, I’m not really in business!
