• I have some users with screen resolutions of 800×600, complaining that they must scroll at the bottom of my site. Is there a way to have WP “resize” the screen for people using 800×600, so the entire site is seen without scrolling? https://www.mytimewithgod.net
    Thanks in advance

  • Although the main box of your site (740 pixels + 24 pixels for the borders) will just fit inside a width of 800 pixels, you have a left margin of 340 pixels to accommodate “Sunday Services”, “search”, etc. That is why there’s always a horizontal scrollbar – not just at 800 but at 1024 as well.

WP can’t resize the resolution on someone’s monitor (at least not yet).

Your best bet might be to look for a fluid 3 column theme… that way the main “content” column will slide back and forth to compensate for different resolutions.

I like Vesuvius and WPAndreas-09 for those.

What theme is that site based on? The left-sidebar seems too wide, not so much the contents of the sidebar, but the left-margin to the left of the left sidebar.

This site is based on blix. I didn’t ask the question right in my first post; i want the site to “resize” not some ones screen. Anyway, i wonder if i can control “resizing” for 800×600 via css?

carnold – the only way to use a “fixed width” theme that works in all screen resolutions is to modify the css so that the sidebar width/s + the content width + all spacing is less than 801 wide.

it’d be much easier to pick another theme… blix is notoriously hard to modify.

I may stick with the “less than 801” idea, as i have found blix much easier to modify than any other theme i have tried. There isn’t a script or something that can get the users screen res and then adjust the screen output accordingly?

I have FF and resolution 1024×768 and still have a huge horizontal scrollbar. By adding that left column you successfully distroyed the original layout – so seemingly it is not so easy to modify as you might think.
    Listen to what lady said…

No thanks. I will continue to address this. Thnaks for all the replies

No problem, it’s your blog. Let us know when you succeed!

“There isn’t a script or something that can get the users screen res and then adjust the screen output accordingly?”

Unfortunately, there isn’t – would be wonderful if there was, then there’d be no need for designing for resolutions… however since it doesn’t exist, and if you’re really concerned about using blix for all resolutions, then the only way to do it is with the “801” thing.

Good luck, and like moshu said, do let us know if you succeed with that! I’m sure a lot of other blix users will want to know if it’s worth their time or if they should just go grab another theme. (I’ve obviously already made that decision… lol I hate blix!)

Seems to me, you got this far with your theme, you can make some more modifications. I think your biggest problem is the left-margin. It appears like a fixed gray margin, what if you pushed the left sidebar all the way to the left edge of the screen, you’d save some space.
