Screwed up my code – is there a recovery?

    I was playing around with sidebar and header trying to place the search box widget in a different place. Don’t know what happened, but now the layout is messed up. The background color has changed from white to gray, and the header image is out of alignment with the rest of the page. Is there a way to revert to a previous edition of the design prior to my changes? Or will I need to start from scratch again?

    I’ll try that in the morning. Not to sound like a whimp, but I’m obviously too tired for this right now. Thanks, mercime… I’ll let you know how it turns out.

    Amazing! I just did the same sort of thing. BTW… I’m using the WordPress Default 1.6 theme.

    I’m new too, and I was playing, trying to place an image file into my header. In the process I deleted something in the header code. Now my header and footer are centered and have the original white border behind each section, but the “posts” section is aligned all the way over the to left of the screen, and the white border behind the “posts” and sidebar is now absent.

    If somebody could copy and paste the original code for the header.php onto this thread, wouldn’t we both be able to just reload it into the “Edit Themes – Header” field and get back to our starting point?

    you can be that somebody. if you dont already have a local copy of wordpress, you can always get it from the downloads page. See the BIG orange link at the top of this page????

    Unzip it, find the file you edited, and voila.

    Theres absolutely NO reason why you cant do that.

    Thanks for the suggestion. In poking around the Google File Manager, I also found a file restore function which did the trick. But your suggestion was right – I simply needed to replace the .php file that I screwed up.

    Unzip it, find the file you edited, and voila.

    The big orange block worked. I’m a somebody now! Thanks for your help.

    Here is a tip:

    Make a back-up of your theme files on your hard-drive, each time before you change anything.

    That way you can always go back to where you were, right before you started. Sometimes you don’t want to be stuck going alllll the way back to the default, if you liked some of the changes you made subsequently.
