I was trying to update one of my websites and accidentally overwrote the wp-config file for the wrong site. I have a whole bunch of databases in my GoDaddy SQL – how do I figure out which is the right one so I can fix this?

  • Maybe try by process of elimination? If you can look at the wp-config.php files for your other sites, and write down the database names, the one that doesn’t show up should be it. (Does that makes sense?)

If you want to know which database belongs to which website then there is a very easy way of doing this. Just open phpMyAdmin, select a database from the sidebar and select the wp_options table. In the first row you will see the site address and in the second one you will see the site name. I hope this will help you identify the right website.

Ok I figured out the database, but how do I figure out the password? I still cannot get into my site, and I cannot find the original wp-config file I had made for it…

So I reset the password and now I am getting the error “Error establishing a database connection”. My favicon is showing up on the website, but nothing else besides that and the error message.

Nevermind, I just got it back up and running! Thank you all for your help. You are lifesavers!
