• I’m trying to duplicate my blog but using a new theme. I’m doing this in a sub directory of the main blog until I get it looking the way I want. My main blog is in the root directory (url: https://www.breadtopia.com).

The new theme is installed in https://www.breadtopia.com/thesis

The home page on the new theme comes up fine but when you click on any link from the home page to any internal page (www.breadtopia.com/thesis/any_page), it takes you to the old theme but with no content.

How do I get the new theme to show up on all the pages?

    Thanks for any advise.

    Eric

  • Is your “test” blog connecting to the same database as the original blog? You cannot do that…

No. I created a new mysql db with a new db name and user name (same password) in the wp-config.php file which is in the thesis directory.

Sounds like something in the .htaccess of your main url overriding your install on a sub directory.

Try temporarily renaming the .htaccess on your main site. Test the sub directory install again and then let us know what happens. (You will want to rename it back pretty quickly)

Im assuming this is a test version of WordPress and you don’t actually intend on using two versions of WordPress installed the way you have?

If it is you could do away with your second install and use a theme switcher plugin so you can test the new theme on the live site while everyone else see’s the current theme.

Good idea, the problem was in the .htaccess file. It’s fixed now. Thanks very much.

You’re right about the new install being a test until it’s suitably tweaked. I had no idea there existed a theme switcher plugin. That’s awesome, I’ll definitely go that route. Do you happen to know if one is better than another, or just get any and use it? Thanks for the heads up on that one too.
