• I have gotten script errors on several pages of this forum. I suspect it has to do with the ads that are included on some of the pages.

The second bug is that I am getting a flash of unstyled content on the forum pages. This is a well documented bug that you can read about here https://www.bluerobot.com/web/css/fouc.asp

Both these errors should really be fixed. ??

I don’t see any errors here. Would you mind quoting some of the errors that you are seeing? Or, could you make a screenshot available for us to see?

    You are using IE ?

Yes, I am using IE (please don’t tar and feather me). Here’s a screenshot of the error https://www.eartherdesigns.com/ss/WPerror.gif

Another little bug is that the dark background of the RH column breaks badly on longer posts. It’s pretty unstable.

Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > uncheck the two boxes near the top about script debugging.
It really is nothing to worry about.

Any reason you don’t like Fiefox ?

I need to have the debugging feature ON and not going to reconfigure my browser every time I visit this site. It really shouldn’t be there. Please don’t make a coding/designer problem a user problem. ??

I test all my sites on ALL browsers including Firefox. The reason I use IE as my ‘working’ browser is because I’m on dialup with a download accelerator which only works with IE. Load times on Firefox are excruciating.

Hmmm . . . script error and FOUC still there. Is this being looked into or are you just going to stick it to IE users in perpetuity?

Maybe and perhaps for the same reasons no one bothers coding anymore for Mosaic 1. The MS browser is old (last version release in 2002), unsupported, noncompliant and a pain in the… and for those reasons anyone who relies on IE is really sticking it to themselves.

Maybe IE 7.0 will have the necessary bug fixes, though my IE 6.0 displays the forum just fine as long as I do not resize the browser window (and there are no script errors).

I just loaded the forum in IE6 (all updates installed), and I don’t get any script errors. Don’t get the flash of unstyled content, either.

If there was a general problem with the forums and IE, I’m sure more people would have complained long ago. Does your download accelerator do any odd caching things?

In IE 5.5 it’s ugly and commenters’ names not showed and the end of the lines overlapped by the sidebar but… that’s not new ??

IE 6 does show the commentor names but resizing the window causes them to jump left over the post, otherwise it is fine and with no script errors as I noted before.

Cleared the cache. Makes no difference. Window is maximized at 1280 x 1024. Yes, IE is old, decrepit and is a royal pain. However, I am tied to it personally and professionally as most of the visitors to my sites use IE6 – over 80%. So I’ll be dealing with it for years to come. The FOUC (for about 2 sec) happens on the main forum pages like this one https://www.ads-software.com/support/forum/7 and also with the edit function.

earther – what version of IE are you using, and I assume it’s a PC ?

IE 6 on XP SP2 with all updates current. Here, see for yourself – https://www.eartherdesigns.com/ss/fouc.gif

Odd. I just looked using IE6 on XP SP2 and I’m up-to-date as well, but I see no fouc.

If you are on high-speed connection, you probably won’t see it – it will go by very fast. I’m connected at 44k right now and yeah, it’s there bigtime.
