    Hi,

I am trying the free version of the plugin.
I have put my Google analytics script (find in my GA backoffice) in the “Head” field of the “analytics” cookie category. I was thinking the code would be inserted in the head if the cookie category is accepted, and would not be inserted or would be deleted of the head if the cookie category is rejected. My problem is that the script is inserted whether the cookie category is accepted or rejected by user…
Is there another setting I’m missing ?

    Many thanks for help !

  • Hello,

take a look at my post:

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/no-cookies-are-set-although-consent-is-given/

    I have the same problem.
According to my current knowledge, the plugin is only usable in the Pro version.

    Hi @jidwictut9 !

Many thanks for your reply. You make me understand the way the plugins works !

First, I agree with you, the “Accept” / “Reject” button of the free version don’t affect the cookie category settings directly. The user have to switch on/off each category and save to really registered his consent. It’s quite confusing.

Secondly, I was thinking the script attached to cookie category was inserted or not according to the user consent. But it works in a different way. Thanks to the Chrome console I have found that :
    – My Google analytics script is inserted by default
    – If the user accept the “analytics” cookies, the cookies (_ga, _gid, _gat) are registered
    – But if the user turn off the switch of the “analytics” category in the cookie settings, the cookies are well deleted.

So the plugin works for me

Yes, that’s exactly how this plugin works but that’s not how it’s allowed to work according to GDPR. The cookies may only be set when you click on agree. So the buttons on the banner are without purpose.
The user must first go to the settings to agree or disagree.
If I have disabled Google Analytics in the backend and the user clicks Agree, Google Analytics should be loaded. But it is not.

    Hi again,

I’ve test this configuration and, maybe it’s OK :

    – All my cookie categories are set to “Enabled” by default.
    – When I first visit my website, the banner appear to let the user choose to accept or reject the cookies.

If I make no choice and visit different pages, no cookies are registered in the chrome console (except necessary cookies) >> So, no cookie registered untill the user make choice

If I click “Reject”, cookies are not registered even if there are set to enabled in the settings. >> So OK for GDPR I think.

If I click “Accept”, cookies are registered.

And I have notice that the cookie ID have to be well registred in backoffice in order the blocker script works well.

Can you share you website with me? I would like to have a look at their settings. Maybe I am doing something wrong.

I experimented a little and now I know how it works. But it is a bit incomprehensible.
I need to set the category of Analytics to active.
So it looks to the user like Analytics is active when he clicks on settings.
But it only becomes active when you click on Agree. Otherwise it remains inactive although it is set to active in the settings. Totally complicated.
It is exactly as you described it.

    Hi @jidwictut9,

We understand your concern regarding enabling the category and then accept.

According to GDPR, the usage of pre-enabled checkboxes where the categories or cookies are kept checked or in an enabled state cannot be used. You can refer to the guidelines here:
    https://gdpr.eu/Recital-32-Conditions-for-consent/
    https://gdpr.eu/gdpr-consent-requirements/

Once the user opens the settings popup, they can toggle the category buttons to enable state and click ‘Save & Accept’.

Also, please refer the article here to know how the script blocking in the plugin works.
