• Is it possible with this plugin to get the contents of a sticky menu to scroll when the number of elements in the menu exceeds the screen height?

The issue occurs in responsive landscape smartphone orientation where the screen height is 320px but the menu has seven items in it. Scrolling in the menu area causes the website to scroll in the background but the menu does not.

If I use the ‘Do not stick element when screen smaller than:’ option then the menu scrolls to the end, but then the menu is no longer sticky which is not the desired behaviour.

I realise that I could change the formatting of the menu to make the items smaller and fit into 320px but I thought I would ask if it was possible to get the scrolling working first.

Thank you in advance for any assistance, and also thank you for making a very useful plugin!

  • I see the issue you’re talking about, but the plugin doesn’t really offer a solution to that — it’s purpose is to make an element sticky, which is exactly what it does, and having that element be larger than the screen is more of a design/UX issue than functionality.

Basically, it would be like you’d be telling the plugin to make it sticky….but make it not sticky when the screen height is smaller than the element itself?

It’s possible, but it would require a custom addition for the plugin.

It would be more like telling the plugin that in the case where the screen height is smaller than the element, to allow part of the element to be sticky (in this case the menu top), but the remainder (the menu items) to sit underneath and scroll as normal.

I understand if this functionality is beyond the scope of what this plugin is designed to do.
The stated functionality of the plugin is already quite comprehensive and works well. But it never hurts to enquire. ??

Thank you very much for your reply and for making a great plugin!

Ah, yes, I understand (I think)! The problem (?) with this would be that if you scroll down a bit, the menu items would move up but the menu bar would stay in place, which could look pretty awkward. However, from a technical point of view it would be quite a challenge, cause you’d need to “cut” the sticky element in two: one part that stays sticky, and another that’s not. That’s not something that can be automatically detected, since all menus (or rather, since all sticky elements) can be created differently.

Sooooo… I’m sure it’s possible in some way, but the plugin doesn’t account for that, and it would be quite a bit of work to make it work like that. ??
