• Just updated to WP 4.0 and Tiny MCE4.1 Advanced

Noticed that the scrollbar has disappeared from the compose field. Whether it’s a new post or editing an old one, can’t get below the visible part of the compose field.

Not really on my blog right now so haven’t seen some of the other reported issues. This one’s pretty significant though. Please help Andrew! You had a solution with the last WP/TinyMCE updates that worked well.

This is a change in WordPress 4.0 and works pretty nice here. Maybe delete the browser cache? If still problems, it can be turned off from Screen Options.

WP 4.0 doesn’t include scrollbar in compose window? Little confused here. There’s no scrollbar option in my Screen Options. Had cleared cache before you replied, to no avail. How are we supposed to move up and down the compose window? Up down arrows is not enough.

Never mind, I found it Andrew. And thanks, I’d have never known that this WP design element is what caused the scrollbar to disappear. Designers!!! What’re you gonna do?! Stupidest thing I’ve ever seen.

For everyone else, in Screen Options if you uncheck “Expand the editor to match the window height” the scrollbar will appear again.

It’s actually pretty nice for longer posts. The editor scrollbar disappears, but the main window scrollbar scrolls the editor content.

Thanks for the Screen Options comment! Personally I prefer the dual scrollbar of pre-4.0 – especially for longer posts. In part because it’s what I’m used to but in part because I can get a bit more screen real estate that way without giving up all of the editing widgets that I’m used to having readily available.

For the benefit of other readers, here are more detailed instructions: Click on Edit Page / Post, click on the ‘Screen Options’ pull down in the upper right, click on the “Expand the editor to match the window height” box to uncheck the box, and click on View Post / Page. (A save of the post / page is not required.) The change in Screen Options will apply to all pages and posts on that WP site.
