• There doesn’t seem to be a search form in twenty-nineteen. It could be put in the footer, but that’s not an ideal place for the search icon/form (especially on bloggy sites – it might be OK on single-page sites though).

Is there any way to add a search icon/form to the top navigation area of the theme? There’s no sidebar, so adding search will be difficult for end users unless they want to hack something into a child theme.

  • Hello @dnorman,

You can add 3rd party plugin to implement search. Please refer the below url-

    Kind regards,

@phpexpert21 – that plugin doesn’t add end-user functionality that isn’t already exposed by the built-in search form. Which isn’t included in the header/nav area of twenty-nineteen, and which could be added only to the footer of that theme as it’s the only widget area (the same widget area that Search & Filter would have to use). This doesn’t fix the “twenty nineteen has no search form at the top of the page” problem.

I agree with D’Arcy. I like 2019, but lack of search box at top rules it out for me.

I agree, to get around it I just added an emoji menu item that linked to the search widget’s anchor.

    Not elegant, but it works.

I’m in the midst of trying to do this the right way – adding it in my child theme. However, there’s a bugginess when there is also a Menu active on the page. The “focus” state of the search field drops and you can’t type into the field. Thoughts? Anyone else find this?
