    I want to add a search bar to my homepage, but I don’t want to use a plugin

  • WordPress has a built-in search widget that you can drop into any widgetized area of your theme. (Your Astra theme’s “Header Builder”, “Footer Builder” and “Sidebar” are all possible places you could drop the search widget.)

    If you don’t like any of your theme’s widget locations or the design of the search form, then you’re down to two choices:

    1) Write custom code yourself to get exactly what you want, OR

    2) Use code already written by someone else (aka plugin).
