Search box improvement

  • Hi all,

    I am pretty new to this. I am trying to improve my search box on the website https://bizstay.co.uk/ . I would like my search box to have the following: when someone starts typing in ‘Location’ field it would automatically suggest a location. Say if I want to search for Amsterdam it would automatically find it form me after I type in couple of characters rather than me typing it manually. Any suggestions?

  • What you’re looking for is called “type ahead”, and it’s not too hard to do.

    A (very quick) search gave me these results:

    It’s also known as “search suggestions” and “search auto-complete”.

    There are a LOT of plugins that do this, many use your own content to provide the suggested words.

    Both are excellent plugins.

    Thank you for your suggestions. I had a look at a few of them but I am not sure if this would work. I want to create a powerful search tool similar to the ones used on booking.com or airbnb.com where when a customer would type in a destination, it would automatically bring up location suggestions and direct them to product categories (hotels).

    So why wouldn’t any of these work? They are all offering what you’ve asked for, and there’s probably some that can be modified a little to give you some results that more closely match your deisred outcome.

    If you can’t find anything that’s pre-built you will have to either build it yourself, ir pay someone ot build it for you. Even though there’s 1,000’s of plugins out there, there’s no guarantee that you’ll find one that will do 100% exactly what you need, especially when you have some custom features that you need to have it work with.
