    Hello again,

I am having an issue with the search engine.

If I search a listing using the “search listing” button, I only get results if I am searching the main name of the person, nothing else. Isn’t it possible to have all the fields (or at least the main ones) used to get results, i.e. I type a job type and get all the people having that type of job.

Advanced searching shows all the form fields (and we have plenty!) making it unusable (too complicated – long to read to be used by an internet surfer). Is there a way to select only a few fields i.e. remove zip code, tel number, address, etc.

    Thanks a lot,

    Hi Chocotoff,

Have you found the settings for Quick Search? (It sounds like you’re using that field–correct me if I’m wrong (the one at the top of the directory main screen))

We allow you to select any field to search on in there and you can set that under Directory Admin->Manage Options, General tab (toward the bottom)

WARNING: Don’t just select everything in there. You should pick and choose the most important fields to use. If you pick everything, you are created a massive join query in the database that will perform very, very badly on most hosting plans. Choose wisely. ??

You can also choose what shows up on the search form as well–that happens under Directory Admin->Manage Form Fields. Edit each field and then uncheck “Display in search form” if you don’t want it there. By default, we show them all.

Thank you so much for your prompt reply. I am always impressed by the quickness :-).

Re the advanced research, you were so right! My mistake. I had removed the “display in search form” a while ago but forgot to do so again when I added new fields as time had passed between the two sessions!

But for the Quick search, I did see this option in the manage option, general tabs but didn’t figure out how to select more than one field in the list. Is there a special way to do so?

    Thanks,

Yes, use Ctrl-click to select more than one item at a time.
