Search engine listings

  • When I search on Google or any other search engine for Taibros, my site’ll be the first on the list. However, the text that’s written after my webpage is usually a recent post. How can I change what is displayed on the search engine?
    So instead of this:
    Taibros.net: recent post text recent post text
    It’ll look like this:
    Taibros.net: Text that I want to have.

  • Use meta tags – click the ‘Help’ on Google. It answers loads of interesting stuff

    You can’t, really. You don’t get to control what the search engines display as a sample of your content.

    <meta name=”Description” content=”your text” /> works. Alteratively you could just enter the appropriate text on your front page so that it onlys shows if say the query string is empty.

    True, but not all search engines utilize snippets of text from the page. In which case, it’ would be excellent to be able to automate the <description> meta tag.
    However, I’ve tried to use the_excerpt — which would have been an unduly long description — but unfortunately, the_excerpt contains tags.
    Is there another tag that might take a snippet from the top paragraph of a post?
    (I’m fully prepared to discover I’m missed something obvious. LOL)
