I am using the startupwp theme which lets me put a search form in the navigation bar at the top.

I already use wordpress https and it makes everything on the page secure, except this search form. Only Chrome seems to notice this, but our site is a non profit site and we don’t want to scare away would be donors!

I have installed your plugin to give it a go.

WhyNoPadlock (and just Google Chrome) still identify the search form in the navigation menu bar as insecure.

It is the only remaining problem on the page!

Anybody have any help for me?

    Am I misunderstanding something basic?

Can this plugin be made to fix the problem?

    Thanks!

    G’day ThirstyJon,

Are you able to post a link to your website? It’s a bit hard to diagnose the problem without one…

    cheers,

Hello, thank you for your response.

It turns out that the https plugin that I am using is forcing the form to be insecure because I have a setting turned on to force all NONSSL pages to just use http.

The problem is, if I don’t force the pages that I don’t need secured to http, there is at least one page that won’t work.

And I cannot figure out a way to just force that page to http

    Maddening.

    the site is worldwideawakening.org/donate

the only solution I’ve found so far is to simply eliminate the search box.

I have to choose between having my search box in the nav bar OR having the one page work that won’t work if https.

So the problem is with the https plugin, yet I need it.

If you’re talking about the search box in the navigation bar, I’m not seeing any problems. I checked in Chrome and in whynopadlock.com, both are happy. Have you fixed it perhaps, with an update maybe?

    cheers,

    I did solve it.

I got rid of the HTTPS plugin and used a combination of your plugin, a plugin called iThemes Security, and a few settings changes.

I’m honestly not sure what role your plugin has played, but when I saw everything doing what I wanted it to do I stopped and left things as they are.

    ??

If your plugin had the functionality to designate some pages to force ssl and others to not (without forcing the search form to be non secured) it would be perfectly what I need.

In the meantime… At least for now the problem is solved.

Thanks for taking an interest. The HTTPS plugin hasn’t been updated in almost 2 years and it appears that the author is no longer interested. Probably got too popular and was too much work to do for free.

    Blessings to you!

No worries, glad you got it sorted.

I do plan to add some extra stuff to this plugin sometime this year, but I want to keep it as lightweight as possible at the same time, so it’s a bit tricky. I’ll bear in mind what you’ve said, and maybe have a single-plugin solution for you ??

    cheers,
    Ross
