I know how to disable search in CleanTalk now, so the reason I am posting is in the hopes of clarifying the issue so your tech team can fix this. It does not seem to be a problem just with certain plugins, but with how CleanTalk is implementing the search box protection. I am using the default WordPress search box in four websites that I tested: one with the Twenty Twenty-Three theme, two using the GeneratePress theme, and one using the Jace theme with WooCommerce installed.

Three of the tested websites work inconsistently. In the one case where the search always works, when I do a search, I see that the URL is appended with the search term and then a token that I assume is from CleanTalk, like this (where the event token is a different number):

    [my domain name]?s=beth&ct_bot_detector_event_token=123456789

On the other sites all that gets appended is the search term, and ONLY when the search is actually working. On one site, I just entered ten searches in a row and only five of them actually executed. Usually, the very first time I try a search, it works, but after that it often does not.

On the commercial production site belonging to a client, I disabled CleanTalk’s search box protection and all is well. For the time being, I have left the search box protection on the site I gave in the link field above so you can play with it there. I can give URL’s for the other sites if you wish (but I don’t think the WP forum allows links in the message body here).

I would appreciate being updated on the status of this issue, as I think the feature would be worthwhile if it worked as intended.

    Thanks!
