Thanks for reaching back with the site’s SSR. Upon trying with a test installation of mine, I could not replicate the issue.

As expected, I could see results upon searching with a term that returned 1 product and another that returned 2 products.

Could you please head to WooCommerce > Status > Tools, and delete orphaned variations, regenerate product lookup tables, recount terms, verify database tables and see if the issue persists?

Hello – I did what you suggested above and it didn’t help at all. I searched for “Night Light” of which I have 5 products, and the search returned 20 items BEFORE the Night Lights, none of which have those words in the title or the description.

It’s like the search function doesn’t work at all.

Sorry to hear that the issue persists ?? May I ask can you switch your theme temporarily to Storefront or Twenty-Twenty? Then please check again.

One alternative is configuring a staging site to make a test on it (The goal is not touching the live site). If your host doesn’t offer that option, we recommend WP Staging for quickly spinning up a new test site.

Once the staging site is created, you can switch the theme to Storefront or Twenty-Twenty, disable all plugins except WooCommerce, then check the searches again. Next, you can reactivate the theme and plugins gradually one by one, until you find the culprit.

I created a staging site, changed the theme, deactivated all plug ins and the problem still exists. When searching for an EXACT name, it doesn’t return the products at all.

Next idea?

As I said in my original message, the only thing the search works for is if I enter one of my sku numbers. The search function isn’t working on words!

I don’t believe there’s anything wrong here, the search function will search for that string everywhere.

For example, let’s take “Night Light”; every product that has “Night Light” or night or light will show up in the search. It’s just how the post search works since all WooCommerce products are custom post types.

You can find many plugins that will filter the search only for the title, description, SKU or a certain meta field but what I found works best personally is exporting all the products and searching with PostID only.

A couple of notes:

– When exporting products, make sure only to include ID and Name to make things easier to read.

– Also, when searching for a product with its ID it will show any product that has the ID number in its details. So the best way to do it is to replace the ID in the URL.

Example: https://mysite.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=356&action=edit

You can replace the 356 with the number you find in the excel sheet.

I don’t think you understand the issue here?

I only have FIVE products that are night lights. No other product has the word night light in the title OR in the body of the text.

Therefore, when I search for a product called “Night Light” in my admin area, the only things that should show are the FIVE night lights. But they don’t. Woo Commerce returns 18 other products, that don’t have the words Night Light, anywhere in them, so that makes no sense that they should be returned FIRST in the search results, ahead of the actual Night Lights themselves.

THAT is how “search” works. It returns items based on your search, not arbitrary items that have absolutely nothing to do with what I searched for.

As I mentioned above, when I search for one of my sku numbers, in the admin area, that exact product is shown. So the search function DOES work on sku numbers but not words/product names, which is ridiculous!

I search in the admin area of my website when I need to find a product, to make a change to it, or to make it an out of stock product. I should be able to search for a word in the title, or the exact name of the product, and at least get close to what I am looking for, because that is how a normal search should work. But it isn’t working that way because Woo Commerce isn’t working correctly,

Perhaps we weren’t on the same page in my first reply.

I don’t know what you are talking about exporting for? This issue has nothing to do with exporting.

I was trying to suggest a solution that allows you to pinpoint the product you’re looking for so you can edit it by changing the URL with the product ID. Exporting the product page with the Title and ID will allow you to look for the product ID really fast using the title only just like you wanted it to be.

Now that’s out of the way, I went ahead and searched for the Night light keyword on your site and this is what I found: https://snipboard.io/qxMr7V.jpg

You would assume that you would find only the highlighted products, but as I explained this is not how the WooCommerce search function works.

It doesn’t tell if you’re looking for something in the title or description which to be honest is not helpful in my opinion either.

That’s actually a good example because it’s very rare that you’ll mention an SKU of a product in another product’s description or anywhere.

Alternatively, you can work with a WooExpert to build you a custom solution for searching with the title only.

Again, I don’t think you are understanding the problem.

What you said here, makes absolutely no sense at all, nor does it pertain to this problem:

You are performing a search ON MY WEBSITE, which is NOT THE ISSUE here, so this “answer” does not help the problem.

I also shouldn’t have to have someone create a “custom” search for my site, since “Searching” is a pretty basic concept, that should work correctly.

Two other people answered this post originally, telling me to change back to a basic theme, and remove all plug ins. They said the search would work properly then, but it didn’t.

I would like either Igor or Pepe to respond to this thread again, because this going back and forth with you, isn’t helping.

I understand that when you search for products in your WP Admin, keywords that are part of the product title aren’t returning any results.
