Search in event title/category using different string depending on user

I’d like to be able to retrieve different events from an external (ICAL) calendar depending on who is viewing the “events page”. So if John is logged in, I’d like him to only see events called “John”, and if Mary is logged in, she would see the events called “Mary”. Is there a way to pass the search query?
A less desirable (but workable) alternative for the search side of this request would be for me to use ICAL CATEGORY and set that to JOHN, MARY, etc, and search on that using the shortcode with http…?category=John, but I still need to be able to vary the category according to who is logged in. (Creating an events page for each user would be incredibly cumbersome, but is the only shortcode-based solution that is immediately obvious to me.) Any suggestions?
