    Hi AndalusianWorld,

Sorry that you ran into issues here!

First, there was a search problem with 4.1–if you have not upgraded to 4.1.1, you should do so immediately as it fixed a merge bug we had with the new search bar feature.

Second, you are completely in control of which fields the quick search queries. That setting is under Directory Admin->Manage Options, General tab under “Quick Search”. We don’t include EVERYTHING by default, because that generates a query most databases are simply unable to handle. Instead, we put in the most common fields (description and title) and allow you to add others that matter for your type of listings.

Quick Search does have a limit and it’s one imposed by WordPress, not us. Multi-valued fields like category are stored in a weird way by WP. Joining to them sounds like it would be straight forward, but WP makes it such that it’s not. As a result, those kinds of fields aren’t available in the quick search today. I’m sorry about that–it’s something we’re still actively looking to see how to work around, but taxonomies as they’re stored in WP don’t query the way you’d expect. It’s frustrating to all.

If you try that and it’s still not working, it would help to know more.

For search issues, usually it’s best to understand how you did it. Can you tell me:
    – What you searched for? (Screenshot of the form just before you search is really the best way)
    – What you got back? (Again, a screenshot is best)
    – What did you not see that you expected to see? (Links to specific listings are helpful here)

Knowing that will help us pin the issue down better.
