Search not available

Im trying to get a search bar to appear in my menu, but can not find an option for this. I have a search appear in a sidebar, but as that only displays on posts, its not visible on the homepage.

Im new to this and have checked the forums to find the answer but could only find ways of removing the search.

I know i have probably not provided enough information, so please ask me what you need to know.
