Search results page – no results
-
Hi,
When I start typing in the search bar results show underneath, but when I press search the search results page is blank. I have gone through the trouble shooting guide and query_posts() or WP_Query() isnt mentions in the search.php file
Kind regards
Adele

Check the Relevanssi admin search (Dashboard > Admin search). Does that get you results? Are the results the same as the ones from the dropdown or different?
Is the results page completely blank? If you look at the page source code, is there an error message in there?
Hi
Thank you for your reply, I have checked the admin search and that doesn’t get me any results it just says searching.
The results page says 0 results found but when you start typing they appear in the drop down.
I have gone on the the console and the only thing I am getting is:
JQMIGRATE: Migrate is installed, version 1.4.1
If the admin search doesn’t find anything, then there’s some problem with Relevanssi. Do you have a complete index? Can you please provide screenshots of your Relevanssi indexing and searching settings?
Hi
Ok I have had a look and it says there is 0 in the index but when I click to add or build it can be running for 10 minutes and the bar doesnt go across?

If you want to index a post type that’s marked ‘Excluded from search’, you can do that without worrying about it – but you need to uncheck the ‘Respect exclude_from_search’ setting from the Searching tab.Index image files Index image attachments
If this option is enabled, Relevanssi will include image attachments in the index. If the option is disabled, only other attachment types are included. For more detailed control over the attachment type indexing, see Controlling attachment types in the Knowledge base.
Taxonomies
Taxonomy Index Public?
Index taxonomy categorycategory yesTaxonomy category is public
Index taxonomy post_tagpost_tag yesTaxonomy post_tag is public
Index taxonomy post_formatpost_format yesTaxonomy post_format is public
If you check a taxonomy here, the terms for that taxonomy are indexed with the posts. If you for example choose “post_tag”, searching for a tag will find all posts that have the tag.Comments
none
If you choose to index comments, you can choose if you want to index just comments, or everything including comments and track- and pingbacks.Custom fields
none
‘All’ indexes all custom fields for posts.
‘Visible’ only includes the custom fields that are visible in the user interface (with names that don’t start with an underscore).
‘Some’ lets you choose individual custom fields to index.Author display names Index the post author display name
Searching for the post author display name will return posts by that author.Excerpts

Default operator
OR – any term present is enough
This setting determines the default operator for the search.Fallback to OR Disable the OR fallback.Disable the OR fallback.
By default, if AND search fails to find any results, Relevanssi will switch the operator to OR and run the search again. You can prevent that by checking this option.Default order
Relevance (highly recommended)
If you want to override this or use multi-layered ordering (eg. first order by relevance, but sort ties by post title), you can use the orderby query variable. See Help for more information.Keyword matching
Partial words if no hits for whole words
Choosing the “Partial words if not hits for whole words” option may lead to unexpected results. Most of the time the “Partial words” option is the better choice.Whole words means Relevanssi only finds posts that include the whole search term.
Partial words also includes cases where the word in the index begins or ends with the search term (searching for ‘ana’ will match ‘anaconda’ or ‘banana’, but not ‘banal’). See Help, if you want to make Relevanssi match also inside words.

Boost exact matches Give boost to exact matches. Give boost to exact matches.
If you enable this option, matches where the search query appears in title or content as a phrase will get a weight boost. To adjust the boost, you can use the relevanssi_exact_match_bonus filter hook. See Help for more details.Admin search Use Relevanssi for admin searches. Use Relevanssi for admin searches.
If checked, Relevanssi will be used for searches in the admin interface. The page search doesn’t use Relevanssi, because WordPress works like that.Respect exclude_from_search Respect exclude_from_search for custom post types Respect exclude_from_search for custom post types
If checked, Relevanssi won’t display posts of custom post types that have ‘exclude_from_search’ set to true.Throttle searches
Throttling the search does not work when sorting the posts by date.Throttle searches. Throttle searches.
Your database is so small that you don’t need to enable this.If this option is checked, Relevanssi will limit search results to at most 500 results per term. This will improve performance, but may cause some relevant documents to go unfound. See Help for more details.

You can restrict search results to a category for all searches. For restricting on a per-search basis and more options (eg. tag restrictions), see Help.Category exclusion

Posts in these categories are not included in search results. To exclude the posts completely from the index, see Help.Post exclusion
Enter a comma-separated list of post or page ID’s to exclude those pages from the search results.Ok, you’re not getting any results, because you don’t have an index. There’s something wrong with the indexing; it should react in couple of minutes max.
Is there an error in the browser javascript console after you click “Build the index”? Is the shortcode expansion option turned on? If it is, try turning it off, does that help?
A screenshot of your indexing settings would be helpful, that copy-paste doesn’t show the actual values of the settings.
Hi
I think we have found a solution (fingers crossed) thank you for your help!
