Search Returned Results Are Not Matching Up

Have you made Relevanssi index the product category taxonomy? If not, make sure “product_category” is checked in the list of taxonomies and then rebuild the index.

If you have done that but it doesn’t work, try the Relevanssi admin search (Dashboard > Admin search). Does that find the baseball products?

Hello – ok that was helpful. I reindexed and the search results using your plugin returned 54. However – I am still a bit confused because when I look under the Product -> Categories in the Dashboard for baseball the items listed are 47. When I use the WooCommerce Product Category search option for Baseball the returned item list is 47. So where would these extra products be pulling from? Thank you!

Could it be your plugin is pulling results for the word Baseball beyond just the category itself and thats why there are more returned than what is listed on the backend?

Yes, Relevanssi looks for the search term everywhere in the posts, including the title, content, taxonomies and whatever you set it to do in the indexing settings.

so it will return products not specifically set to that category? If say – the product as the term baseball in the description? … like “this product goes well with our baseball items”… and the product described is under a different category?

I am just specifically wondering how its pulling more items that are what is showing in the dashboard? where would those additional products be pulled from if they are outside the category?

If you search for “baseball”, Relevanssi will return all posts that have the word “baseball” somewhere in them. You likely have some posts that mention “baseball” somewhere in the post but are not in the product category.

To get posts only from the specific product category, you need to add a product category filter in the search. With Relevanssi Premium, you could also do a search for {product_category:baseball} and that would only get you results where the word “baseball” appears in the product category. That option is not available in free Relevanssi, though.

I have no problems getting the Pro version if it means more control and better performance. Can you please post a link where to purchase?
