    It is very likely that the sort function on the results page uses a separate query/or modifies the default search query to change the ordering. Since this plugin also uses this technique, one of them overrides the other, thus it does not have any effect. I am not sure if this is possible to resolve without actually changing the code.

    The search speed mostly depends on your server performance, the size of your database etc.. If you only have a few posts, and it is slow, it might indicate some sort of conflict. If you have any firewall active, you should also check if there is anything blocked there. If there are many (tens of thousands) items to search, with lots of text, then it is possible that the server is not able to handle the search query, and it causes a slow response time.
