• Can someone tell me if the Header and Footer plugin works with Astra theme?

I have created a relative path from what url I see in Filezilla for the favicon upload and put that into Header and Footer plugin as ‘only on home page’ in the header section.
I’ve made sure my favicon follows the rules for accepted size (48×48 pixels).

Maybe it’s Google, because I read somewhere that even if you follow the instructions to create the url search favicon, they might not necessarily implement it.

There is nothing wrong with my code (I have followed the instructions as per the Google page link attached). I had a different theme on my site until today and I know that when I first linked the favicon’s relative url into Header and Footer plugin it worked. But I’m not sure if Astra has broken this because I hadn’t regularly checked search to see if the favicon continued to appear with the old theme.

I’m not sure if there’s a way to just add the rel path straight into Astra home page code and not using the header and footer plugin, but saying that I think the header and footer plugin takes over the header so you have to use that plugin to make header changes??

This issue is not to be confused with site favicon – because that works and appears on website tabs.

    Any help appreciated.

  • I’m also having the same issue with favicon. It shows up fine on the browser, but on Google search results, only globe icon is shown. I think it’s a problem with the theme because even Astra website is having this problem.

    That’s interesting, thanks.

I wonder if anyone has solved this issue..??

For some reason, the favicon of my website has suddenly return. Not sure how and why but the last thing I do before realising the favicon is back is purging all cache from my LiteSpeed Cache plugin. The favicon might already returned before I did that though. Hope Astra support can explain more regarding this issue.

By the way @jacdaniel , I don’t even follow the Google Search Central instructions. I only upload favicon from theme Customizer. It should be enough because if you try to view the page source of your site, the code <link rel="shortcut icon" href="/path/to/favicon.ico"> and other rel attributes has already been inserted automatically.

Well i’ve purged all cache on my site and it’s made no difference. The theme customizer definitely doesn’t work for the favicon appearing on search results – it only works for me for adding the favicon to the side of browser tabs.

I will look into whether or not I need to disable ‘header and footer’ plugin, and add the <link rel=”shortcut icon” href=”/path/to/favicon.ico”> code directly to the header of the homepage.

Just can’t find a way. I’ve tried numerous header and footer plugins that state they’re compatible with my version of wordpress (5.9)
Tried a variety of codes in these plugins; and to disable the header/footer plugin and adding the code directly to the source code header of the home page.
I’m guessing someone knows about how to make this work?

    Hi @jacdaniel,

By Header and Footer plugin, did you mean our Elementor Header & Footer Builder (EHF) plugin? If so, then the answer is yes, this plugin works with Astra.

Further, since this query is more related to the EHF plugin, I would suggest you create a thread on its respective forum.

    Kind regards,
    Herman ??

No @bsfherman, I am referring to any header/footer plugin that allows scripts so that I can insert a code such as: <link rel=”shortcut icon” href=”/path/to/favicon.ico”> into the header section of my site in order to display my favicon on google search (that I have already uploaded to my site’s root folder via ftp).

Incidently, I already have EHF running on my site, so I am wondering if this would interfere with any additional script based header/footer plugin on Astra?- However, It didn’t with a different theme I used to have, where the favicon successfully appeared in google search. As soon as I installed Astra the search based favicon of my site failed to appear.

    Hi @jacdaniel,

I am not sure if it’s necessary to have another code to make the Favicon work. There’s already a feature to upload the Site Icon. WordPress implemented this from version 4.3.

    Kind regards,
    Herman ??
