• Hey guys, I am working on a tool to track positions of WordPress plugins in the plugin directory. I want to help developers understand the search statistics of WordPress plugin directory. Is this information available anywhere so that I can add it to my tool? It’s highly requested.

    Hi @p0rthas,

No, www.ads-software.com search statistics / terms searched is not publicly available.

Additionally, please ensure that any API requests to the API include a unique identifying user-agent as generic curl/python/php user agents have a low threshold for blocking due to abuse.

Personal opinion: Search rank is not super important, and the tags attached to a plugins readme is more for categorization than search, while the tags are used in the algorithm more weight is applied to every other signal due to tag abuse in the past, making ranking of plugins by their tags almost irrelevant.

Hey dd32, thx for reply. Yes we use unique identifiers for user agents. But I have to disagree about importance of search ranks. This is how users find and install plugins by searching for them in plugin directory. While tags aren’t as important for search, we don’t really rely on them as you can simply add a custom keyword any time you like.
