Search Widget Location—only 1 viable option?

OK, I had a look for a plug-in. I found:

‘Add Search To Menu’

It’s not very elegant, layout-wise (on my site, anyway) but it works. Here it is on my site, both in the top main nav menu and in the bottom social links menu:

Alternatively, is there a way of generating a search page that I can link to from the main nav menu? A bit like this:
https://johnwhiteillustrator.com/wordpress/?s=blah

That could be done in a child theme, by creating a search.php template and adding it to your child theme. Ref: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Creating_a_Search_Page

Making a child theme means your changes won’t be overwritten when you update the theme. If you’re new to child themes, you can explore these guides:

Thanks for the message.

I have search in the top and bottom of the site now using the ‘Add Search To Menu’ plug-in, as I said above. But I might take a look at the method you’ve given above. Just not sure if I’m able for such technical stuff!

If the plugin is working well for you, there’s no need to switch your method. ??
