I want to create a second WordPress website. The first was installed on HostMonster and created by someone else. Now I want to install and create the new blog. I want to use HostMonster for now for simplicity’s sake.

The main domain on Hostmonster is caribeshuttle.com

I registered a new domain, GoBananasCostaRica.com, and I made it an Addon as follows:

    Addon Directory: public_html/gobananascostarica
Addon Parent: The domain gobananascostarica.com is aliased to gobananascostarica.caribeshuttle.com
I then used the WordPress installer in HostMonster (aka One Click, aka Mojo Marketpace (used to be Simple Scripts)). It asked me to select the domain I want to install wordpress to, and then I hit the button to Check Domain.

It came back with this statement that followed a check box:

“OOPS! Looks like something already exists there! I understand that continuing will overwrite the files.”

    What could already exist there?
If I check the box it takes me to a page where a bunch of fields are filled in like site name, email, pass/user, and a box to check if I want Hostmonster to automatically create a database.

And then the button to INSTALL.

I am afraid to hit that button because I am afraid of losing the files in my main blog, caribeshuttle.com. I am more afraid because of the statement, “OOPS! Looks like something already exists there! I understand that continuing will overwrite the files.”

Am I safe to click install?

  • You should have a file manager inside your hosting panel. You could use it to browse the site files and see what’s going on. The existing files may only be the temporary files that your host puts there. The site you currently see at gobananascostarica.caribeshuttle.com are the temporary files I am talking about and those are OK to overwrite BUT since we want to be sure it is not overwriting your current WordPress site I would suggest possibly contacting the host if possible or just be very sure you are giving it the correct parameters during installation. It probably is safe to proceed because I believe Simple Scripts would detect a current WP installation and warn you.

    Hope that helps!

Keith, Thanks. I checkied the file manager, which did not make much sense to me as all my directories appeared to be similar. Later I was able to chat with HostMonster after 9pm, impressive, with only a minute’s wait, impressive. The gal was helpful and in a moment she assured me that I was safe to click install. Surprising and impressive service. I clicked install and in a moment I was up and running with no damage to my other site.
