I installed WP in the root directory months ago and recently upgraded to 2.7. The root directory/url is: https://www.greggcountygop.com.

Today I went to install a second WP in a subdirectory: https://www.greggcountygop.com/youngrepublicans/

Install went fine. The two installs are setup with two different databases, each having their own unique username and password. In MySQL, each database has only one user assigned: each is a unique name.

However, now when I try to visit the root, it says “Error establishing a database connection.” I didn’t change anything for the root directory. I can access the subdirectory install.

    What might have happened?

Note to anyone else: be sure you do not change the username of existing database usernames. I accidentally did, causing this problem. It’s fixed now.
