• I just added a randomly generated security key to wp-config.php, per this page:

    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Editing_wp-config.php#Security_Keys

Now my browser displays the key at the top of my homepage. Is this normal?

It appears only in Google Chrome, and only (apparently) at my IP, so I don’t think others can see it. But I can’t get rid of it — I’ve removed the key from wp-config.php, but it’s still displayed at the top of the homepage.

If this is normal it might be good to provide a warning on the codex page — I wasn’t expecting this. Thanks.

  • No, that’s not normal.

    Try clearing your cache out.

Thanks for responding so quickly. I restarted and it seems okay now.

In case anyone ever needs to know — Chrome was inserting the full key at the very top of the source, even before DOCTYPE. It didn’t appear in other browsers, even on this machine. The site functioned fine, and the key appeared only on the main index page, nowhere else.

I’m fighting an exploit, so it could be connected to that. For now I’ll leave wp-config as it was; I’ll come back and add the key when I’m clean.

    Thanks again for your help.
