Security Notices
-
Out of sheer coincidence, I discovered some plugins I use(d) were removed from the pluign repository due to security issues.
I got to thinking that it should be part of the WordPress core that anything a user gets from the repositories that is later removed due to security issues triggers a warning notice somewhere in the WP admin system. Presently plugin users are simply left abandoned by both the plugin author who for whatever reason hasn’t provided an update, and WordPress core, which leads users to plugins hosted at www.ads-software.com, but then neglects to lead them away when it is discovered they have security problems that aren’t going to be fixed. Author abandonment is a fact of life we all have to live with, including authors who may simply find themselves unable to provide updates but have no way of getting in contact with their users. How WP handles this problem can however, be changed.
I respectfully request that the WordPress core be changed to notify admins (the “Updates” area seems like a logical place) who are using plugins that were removed from the plugin repository due to security concerns.
