Security question – access to email accounts

    Hi,

    I’ve started using this plugin and found the Gmail tutorial very clear and helpful.

    However Google gives a warning, about this application having access to all the emails in the account.

    If my website were to be hacked, would this leave the Gmail account vulnerable? Or is there some fundamental mechanism that prevents this access being used for anything other than sending?

    Do you recommend that this plugin be used with a separate Gmail account that would not cause big problems if it were compromised?

  • Hi Philip,

    The app will get access to all the emails in the account. Currently, there is no such mechanism to prevent access, and we can’t guarantee if your website were to be hacked. We will be looking forward to only request the minimum access needed for the plugin to work properly. You can revoke the access if you suspect your website being hacked.

    It is up to your choice to use a separate Gmail account. Note that ‘From Email’ should be the one associated with your Google account.
