    Hello everyone,

I’m reaching out to share some thoughts and seek advice on a personal project. Initially, I wanted to create a platform inspired by the Digg model, enabling dynamic interaction where users can submit links accompanied by a thumbnail, title, description, associated category, and keywords. The idea is for these submissions to be voted on by the community, thus promoting a content hierarchy based on user appreciation.

Historically, there were CMS specifically designed for such projects, like Kliqqi, which offered functionalities suited for Digg-like sites. Unfortunately, many of these specialized solutions have either lost popularity or have not been maintained, leading me to consider WordPress as a potential alternative.

WordPress seems to be an interesting platform for this project, given its flexibility and the wide availability of plugins. However, I am looking for advice on selecting the best existing plugins that could fit this concept or feedback on developing a custom solution if necessary.

I’m thus curious about the possibilities of adapting WordPress for a Digg-like project and would greatly appreciate any advice, experiences, or recommendations on how to approach this challenge.

I’m comfortable with advice in both French and English. If you have any insights to share, plugin recommendations, or tips for developing such a platform, your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your time and support.

    Kind regards,

  • Historically, there were CMS specifically designed for such projects, like Kliqqi, which offered functionalities suited for Digg-like sites. Unfortunately, many of these specialized solutions have either lost popularity or have not been maintained,

Most of the WordPress plugins I remember from the era have their domains expired/abandoned, their URLs return 404, or their www.ads-software.com listings haven’t been updated in over a decade.

Perhaps this should be telling you this is a dying/dead niche? It seems the cool kids have found new ways to distract themselves and are now hanging out at places like Instagram, TikTok, etc ??

    Anywho…

The bbPress + bbPress Voting combo should do the job: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/bbp-voting/

Perhaps you could also re-purpose Q&A (StackOverflow clone) plugins for this.

For non-WordPress Digg/Reddit clone projects that are still somewhat active, please see Lemmy and Kbin (visit their official sites linked on these Github project pages and check out their sample implementations).
