• I just looking for some opinions here.

I have a very large review site in the works. Each product is essentially a custom post type, which can be organized into categories and sub categories, age groups and brand.. what would be a good method of organization for this? Custom taxonomies? I mean I want to be able to drill down like so…

    Food
    -Fruit
    –Chiquita
    —Banana

But let’s say Chiquita is under vegetables too, that would mean chiquita would be in multiple locations… I’ve considered possibly setting up brands as “tags,” but maybe there is a better way? Ideally I’d like to be able to drill down…without duplicating things..

    ideas?

Or maybe I just do multiple custom taxonomies, and not do drill downs of one category.

You can use categories, menus and tags. But if the number of your sub-categories are a lot, organizing them is difficult and also it can be difficult for visitors to navigate through your large categories and menus and in this case its better to use tags too in addition to categories.

Is there a way to avoid redundancy?

For example, let’s say I have a product that is for ages birth to 12 months, and under $25 AND is brand XYZ, it would appear:

    Birth to 12 Months
    – XYZ Brand
    –Product

    Under $25
    – XYZ Brand
    –Product

Wouldn’t that be redundant? How do you avoid this?

Its a way too and nothings wrong with it but as i said, its better to avoid having tens of categories and subcategories to confuse visitor. If you think it doesn’t confuse visitor, its OK. If your categories are not getting too large, its good to have all this options categorized.
