Selected, checked bug

I think the selected and checked functions (the ones in general-template.php.) have a bug, I did not manage to echo them properly, It does return the proper value but it also outputs the value as if the echo is not set to true. I tried this with 2 exact strings, it does the same, I think It’s a bug.
