I can no longer select a league for friendly matches. In the past this was possible. If I switch the type of the match to ‘friendly’, then the fields for league and season get hidden. Is this a bug or a new feature? The changelog says nothing about this.

I have put screenshots of the two states here: https://cloud.fromm-media.de/s/jJZoG5NYeJLpo6y

I use WordPress 5.9.2 and SportsPress version 2.7.15.

  • I had this bug too. Moves the “Format” window to the left side of the screen. Really weird bug.

    Hi there @joachimfromm ,

This commit hides by default the League and Season selection when the format is set to “Friendly”: https://github.com/ThemeBoy/SportsPress/commit/860e0dac1d9db05dbeb75d5f3c32418e48f2c323

What is the purpose to select a competition or a season for a friendly match? You will keep stats?

    Thanks,
    Savvas

Thanks @savvasha for your reply. The advantage of friendlies belonging to a league is that you can view them separately by age, level, region, etc.

Let’s take two concrete examples from our sport: we invite additional teams to the regular league match days every now and then (e.g. national teams, teams from other regions). We do this on the same day for both juniors and adults. These games are not counted for the league table.

On the website we would like to show the friendly matches separately from the league matches and separately for juniors and adults. For this purpose, we have used the option to assign friendly matches to leagues in the past. With the shortcode editor this was easy for us to display.

Do you have an idea how we can achieve the described without league assignment for friendly matches as comfortable?

Due to the pandemic, our match operations came to a nearly complete standstill for almost two years. Now we are back in full swing and are only now realizing that the behavior of friendly matches has changed.

You can create a League with name “Friendly Games” and use that one everytine you organise a friendly game.

This is probably what I will do. But what sense does the selection of match types make then?

It is easier that way for most users to schedule friendly games without assigning seasons and leagues.

The use of leagues and seasons was optional. Those who did not need it, did not use it. But who needed it, must change. I will be fine with it, but think the implementation in the product is inconsistent.

I see what you mean. By design friendly events won’t ever belong to a season/competition (since they aren’t competitive), but it might be useful to have something like that for grouping events.

We’ll keep this in mind for future updates.

    Thanks!
