Self-contained wordpress forum in a plugin – RS Discuss
-
I’ve written a forum plugin that aims to give seamless integration with WordPress. It follows the same sort ethos as bbPress, keeping things simple, but is entirely self-contained within a single plugin.
I have an test system set up here:
https://www.sargant.com/blog/forum/Some of the features include:
- Full integration with WordPress’ own user system
- Pretty permalink integration
- Multiple forum setup
- RSS feeds for forums, topics and user activity to keep track of what’s new
- Search capabilities
- Sidebar widget integration
- Totally customisable, including different setups for different themes
- Fully featured moderator controls including pinning and locking topics
- Clean uninstall functions if you don’t like it ??
This is the very first release I’ve made of it, and I’m looking for anyone that’s interested in having this kind of functionality embedded in their WordPress system to help test it out.
It’s a “feature-complete” alpha if that makes any sense, bug hunting has been at a minimum so far but there aren’t any great big holes where you click a link and end up in the middle of nowhere.
Anyway, if you’re interested, please go here:
https://www.sargant.com/blog/archives/2006/07/rs-discuss-05.htmlIntstallation instructions are in a readme file inside the zip (very easy!), along with other information. Full customisation is technically possible at this stage, but I’ve havent written up the documentation on variables and functions. It does have the ability to change the colours of the custom theme built in for the meantime.
