• Howdy,

I want to start selling digital products on my blog site but haven’t the foggiest idea of how to start. I see some plugins that allow you to add a shopping cart – this is close to what I want to do. In short, I want to sell a digital product, collect the money, then allow the purchaser to download one specific digital product.

I also want to accept Paypal as well as the usual credit cards. The plugins I saw only work with Paypal (I think). So I think I have to get a merchant account? And some sort of certificate?

I am a complete tyro with this stuff so any suggestions are welcome.

    Thanks,

    Greg

You don’t need a plugin to do this friend. WP Commerce Plugins are more effort than they are worth.

When you say digital products, I am assuming you are saying Ebook correct?

Email me [emaol moderated] I am uploading the FIRST, complete FREE WordPress set-up video tutorials (70 videos) to Youtube. This is answered in that series.

    Hi Ghochh,

I’ve used all the major WP Plugins like WP Commerce but they’re usually a huge pain to customize and configure… especially for things like digital products.

Depending on your level of coding expertise you may want to consider rolling your own order form for this or you can hire a company that can do it for you. Most web developers who are trained in SSL can do this or you can try the route we ended up taking… we found a company called Secure Order Form that offered to build a custom system for us when we signed up for their services. It was pretty good and gave us all the features we needed.

Someday I’m sure WordPress will have better ecommerce capabilities but in the mean time I hope you find a solution that works for you!
